Frequently Asked Questions
-
When a fixed fee is charged, it covers the following:
a free initial consultation of up to 45 minutes, by telephone, video call, or in person, to discuss your circumstances and outline the service;
taking your full instructions across one or more fact-finding meetings (subject to the time allowances explained below); the number of meetings does not affect the fixed fee;
preparing a draft Will/LPA and sending it to you for review;
one round of amendments following your review of the draft; and
one execution appointment of up to 45 minutes to finalise and sign the Will/LPA.
The meeting time allowances included within the fixed fee are as follows:
single client, Will only: two hours
single client, LPA(s) only (up to two LPAs): two hours
single client, Will and LPA(s) combined (up to two LPAs): three hours
joint clients, Wills only (mirror Wills for two clients): three hours
joint clients, LPAs only (up to four LPAs for two clients): three hours
joint clients, Wills and LPAs combined (mirror Wills plus up to four LPAs for two clients): four hours
These allowances cover all fact-finding meetings from the point of instruction through to execution. The initial consultation and execution appointment are not counted towards these allowances. Where a matter falls outside the categories above, On Yin Li Solicitor will confirm the applicable time allowance at the point of engagement.

If the work requires more time than the allowances set out above — for example, because your instructions are particularly complex, because further meeting time is needed, or because you request amendments beyond the one round included — On Yin Li Solicitor will notify you before incurring any additional charges.
Additional time is charged at £300 per hour (or pro rata for part thereof), billed in 6-minute units.
On Yin Li Solicitor will always seek your agreement before proceeding with work that would attract an additional charge.

The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) permits freelance solicitors to provide services direct to clients without any professional indemnity insurance if they only carry out non-reserved activities, which is the case for On Yin Li Solicitor. Clients are not covered by the SRA minimum terms and conditions of professional indemnity insurance.
Despite the above, On Yin Li Solicitor holds professional indemnity insurance on a voluntary basis as a matter of good practice and for clients’ protection. The current insurer is Hiscox. The insurance provides cover for legal services provided in England and Wales only. Details of the level of cover are available on request. In gist, the liability of On Yin Li Solicitor to clients for any losses arising out of or in connection with the services On Yin Li Solicitor provides is limited to £2.5 million per claim.
